Pros and Cons of Cuisinart Rice Cookers

There are currently two Cuisinart rice cookers: the 4-cup Cuisinart CRC-400 and the 8-cup Cuisinart Rice Cooker CRC-800. They almost look the same, only differing in size. Both the 4-cup CRC-400 and the 8-cup CRC-800 look good with the stainless steel exterior. Both comes with a nonstick bowl, and their baskets are made of stainless steel, which is very good for steaming veggies and also your favorite seafood.

Both models use an easy-to-use boiling method. You’ll also get a removable glass top lid, a measuring cup, and a plastic rice spoon. Each also includes a manual with easy to follow recipes. But there’s lacking about the CRC-400 and the CRC-800: Fuzzy Logic and sophisticated settings for different kinds of rice. They also don’t feature programmable timer. Despite the lack of features, these rice cookers can cook a nice bowl of rice. But still, many users are not happy about Cuisinart rice cookers.

Cuisinart 4-cup CRC-400

The Good: The 4-cup version has a very trendy design. It has the size of a small two-slice toaster, so you don’t have to worry about it taking a lot of space on your counter. It fits in quite nicely regardless of your kitchen decor. One good thing about this rice cooker is its easy-to-clean parts. It also allows you to cook your rice in no time.

The Bad: There are some consumer complaints about spill over. But there’s a trick to avoid that: Rinse the rice first. And then add a teaspoon of vegetable oil for each cup of rice. This can solve the problem most of the time.

This rice cooker has tiny steaming basket that can’t hold to many vegetables and seafood. It’s only good for a single person or a couple. Another issue is the water-to-rice learning curve. But this cooker does a fine job cooking good rice after you’ve dealt with the water-to-rice learning curve issue. In fact, it’s just as good as the other rice cookers with a rapid boil style.

8-cup CRC-800

The Cuisinart 8-cup CRC-800 looks stylish and smooth feel. It has a brushed and smooth stainless steel outside. It’s one of the prettiest kitchen appliances you’ll ever have on your counter. You don’t have to worry about its handles since it’s chrome plated and touch friendly. The handles don’t get hot, allowing you to move the device without getting burned.

The Cuisinart 8-cup CRC-800 has standard lever control and warming settings. It also has retractable cord storage. You’ll also get a measuring cup and a rice paddle. This rice cooker has limited 3-year warranty.

But this the rice sticks with this cooker, despite its pot’s nonstick coating. According to the manual, you have to spray its bottom so that the rice won’t stick. Still, a nonstick bowl should be nonstick, whether you spray it or not. But a lot of users attest that there’s no problem with sticking.

Many consumers complain that the 8-cup CRC-800 has some minor splattering issues like the 4-cup CRC-400. Yes, it features a steam vent that prevents splattering. But only if you cook 6 cups ore less. Spilling over becomes a big problem if you cook more than 6 cups.
